2010 Local Body Elections

Notice of day of election

Public Notice
Description: A list of nominated candidates
Closing Date: 9 October 2010 at 12:00pm

The following people have been nominated as candidates for the Gisborne District Council and Tairawhiti District Health Board.

An election will not be held in the Cook ward and Uawa ward as the number of candidates is equal to the number of vacancies.

Graeme Thomson (Cook ward) and Pat Seymour (Uawa ward) are duly elected.

For all other council wards, the mayoralty and the Tairawhiti District Health Board, there are more candidates than there are vacancies to be filled, so an election will be held between the listed candidates on Saturday 9 October 2010.

Elections for the Tairawhiti District Health Board will be held using the Single Transferable Vote (STV) electoral system.

Elections for Gisborne District Council positions will be held using the First Past the Post (FPP) electoral system.

Both elections will be by postal vote.  Voting documents will be posted to eligible voters between Friday 17 September 2010 and not later than Wednesday 22 September 2010.  Voting documents must be returned by post, or delivered to the Electoral Officer, Gisborne District Council no later than 12noon Saturday 9 October 2010.

Both the Gisborne District Council and the Tairawhiti District Health Board have resolved to allow early processing of voting documents.  Special votes may be cast at Gisborne District Council in Fitzherbert Street and Te Puia Springs during ordinary office hours between Monday 20 September 2010 and 12noon on Saturday 9 October 2010.

A person can apply to enrol as either a residential or ratepayer elector up to and including 8 October 2010 – the day before close of voting.
