2020 By-Election

A by-election for one vacancy in the Gisborne Ward (approx 24,500 electors) will be held on Thursday 19 November 2020 by postal vote.  

Candidate nominations closed 12noon Wednesday 23 September 2020. Those nominated are:

Jones, Peter
Murphy, Frank
Nepia-Clamp, Te Aturangi
Tupara, Nick

A postal ballot for electors of the Gisborne Ward will commence on Wednesday 28 October 2020 with the delivery of voting documents.

Voting documents can be returned by post or hand delivered to the Gisborne District Council's main office, 15 Fitzherbert Street, Gisborne.

All votes must be received by the electoral officer or an electoral official by 12noon Thursday 19 Novermber 2020.

A person can apply to enrol as either a residential or ratepayer elector up to and including Wednesday 18 November 2020 - the day before the closing of voting.

Candidate nomination

To be eligible to stand for election, a candidate must:

• be aged 18 years or over 
• be a New Zealand citizen by birth or citizenship ceremony
• be enrolled on the Parliamentary Electoral Roll - this can be at an address anywhere in New Zealand.
• have 2 people nominate you who are electors (residential or ratepayer) of the Gisborne Ward.
