Fire Status: RESTRICTED
The urban fire status is defined using 2 terms:
- Restricted Fire Season
A permit is required from the Gisborne District Council to light a fire in the open air. These generally exclude gas BBQ's and other gas appliances. You are responsible for any consequences should a fire get out of control.
- Because there is a permanent restricted season all hangi within the city boundary require a permit and these are available at the Council's service centres.
- Prohibited Fire Season
Conditions are such that all fires are banned, even when a permit has been issued.
