Rural Residential Zone Review

The objective of the Rural Residential review was to identify areas within the Rural Residential zone which could accommodate smaller section sizes, allowing a potential increase in the density of development.

Council reviewed the Rural Residential and Rural Lifestyle zones and reported in February (pdf 5350 kb) and March (pdf 948kb) on the complex stormwater, wastewater and slope stability issues identified. The outcome was that a staged approach was agreed, with the Glenelg Corner identified as Stage One.

If landowners agree to reduce the minimum lot sizes for subdivision from 1 hectare (10,000m2), this would be implemented by a Plan Change process to the District Plan.  The Proposed Plan Change 28 was publicly notified on Saturday 28 June 2008.  View the evaluation of Plan Change 28.
