Council is currently working on developing a strategy for how the Gisborne urban area will develop in the future. The types of things that the strategy could address include :
- Future land use patterns and redevelopment directions for the city.
- The provision of infrastructure in a rational and efficient manner.
- The protection of environmental values, management of cultural heritage and ensuring that future generations have a quality environment.
- Building confidence in the 'brand' Gisborne and providing inspiration for a positive future.
- Direction for other plans relating to the Gisborne urban area, the Council's Combined Regional Land and District Plan, Reserves Plans and Infrastructure Development Plans.
- Tangata whenua values.
- The promotion of quality design.
