Advice and support for those impacted by China export shutdown

Regional leaders are meeting regularly to discuss the impacts the Coronavirus outbreak is having on our local export industry, and putting support in place for those affected.

Mayor Rehette Stoltz says the well-being of affected Tairāwhiti residents is the key priority. During this very uncertain time, we want to ensure our residents are supported. Several organisations are working together to make sure the right support is in place.

Please seek help when and if you need it. reach out and don't wait.

Financial support and assistance

For employers

We know that you have obligations to your employees as well as financial ones to banks, lenders, IRD.  Talk to them now and give them a heads up, they can tell you what support and assistance they can provide.

For employees

If you think you may have problems meeting your monthly bills contact your companies, they can put in place measures to assist you; they will be there to help you.

We are liaising with MSD to assist in the placement of workers into temporary and seasonal work across a range of sectors including silvi – thinning and pruning, traffic management, horticulture and agriculture.
