Blessing of 'Timelines' surf sculpture
The community is invited to attend the blessing of the ‘Timelines’ surf sculpture at Roberts Road on September 22, starting at 10am.
The sculpture by artist Paulus McKinnon pays tribute to the people who shaped and sustained one of New Zealand’s most popular surfing lifestyle districts, and the generations who interact in its waves.
The project was first conceptualized by former national women’s surfing champion Gail Patty.
It represents three eras of surfboards:
- The Bob Davies 9ft model, circa 1966
- The Surfboards Gisborne 7ft 2in long model, circa 1972,
- The Three Fin Thruster model, first designed in 1980. The 6ft 1in shape was made by The Boardroom Gisborne.
The project was supported by Eastland Community Trust, Arts in Public Places Trust, First Sovereign Trust, NZ Community Trust, The Lion Foundation, Clark Charitable Trust, J & T Hickey Charitable Trust, Sunrise Foundation, Gisborne District Council and the Gisborne Community.
