Code of conduct

The code of conduct sets out the understandings and expectations agreed by the elected members of the Gisborne District Council.

It applies to all elected members of the council, namely the Mayor, Deputy Mayor, committee chairpersons and councillors and all persons appointed to committee of the council or sub-committee. The code of conduct is about the manner in which they conduct themselves while acting in their capacity as elected members. It includes understandings on behaviour towards one another, towards management and staff and towards the public.

The Local Government Act 2002, Schedule 7 requires a local authority to adopt a code of conduct. Once adopted, all elected members are required to comply with the code.
