Dog control policy and practices

You can see how Gisborne District Council manages its dog control responsibilities.  It is an annual requirement to report each financial year on the administration of the dog control policy and practices and provide dog control statistics.

2010-11 dog control policy and practices

Council has 3 full-time Gisborne-based animal control officers, plus one part-time officer. The Te Puia Springs office has 2 full-time animal control officers and 2 part-time stock rangers. The animal control officers are responsible for covering a land area of 8,360 square kilometres and 3,360 kilometres of public roads, and 330 kilometres of state highway.

There are 11,641 dogs currently owned in our district by 5,766 owners.  The dog count in the following categories include:
