Electoral rolls

The electoral roll for our district is available for inspection at council's customer service centres and the HB Williams Memorial Library.

To vote in council or health board elections, you need to be enrolled on either the residential or ratepayer electoral rolls.

Residents of Gisborne - residential roll

Gisborne residents enrolled on the parliamentary electoral roll are automatically enrolled on the Gisborne residential roll.  You are eligible to enrol if you are:  

  • 18 years of age or older, and
  • a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident, and
  • have lived in New Zealand continuously, at any time for one year or more.

If you need to enrol, or check that you're on the roll, or you need to update your information, you can:

  • ring 0800 ENROL NOW (0800 36 76 56)
  • fill in the appropriate form at any Post Shop
  • visit the elections website to enrol or check your details www.elections.org.nz

Ratepayer not resident in Gisborne - ratepayer roll

Ratepayers who own and pay rates on a property in our district, but are not residents in the Gisborne district, may be entitled to enrol on the ratepayer roll.

Companies, businesses and societies paying rates on a property may nominate one of its members or officers as a ratepayer elector (provided that both the person nominating and the nominee live outside the local body area).  Ratepayer roll enrolment forms are available from:
