At a meeting on 25 August 2011 Council resolved to continue with the First Past the Post (FPP) electoral system for the 2013 triennial general election.

Electors of the Gisborne District Council have a right to demand a poll to change the resolution to use the Single Transferable Vote (STV) electoral system.

Should a valid demand for a poll be received, a poll will be held on whether the First Past the Post (FPP) electoral system or Single Transferable Vote (STV) electoral system will be used for the next 2 triennial elections (2013 and 2016) of the Gisborne District Council.

A valid demand must be:

  • made in writing
  • signed by at least 5 percent of eligible
  • electors of the Gisborne District Council. This will require 1,517 elector signatures.
  • delivered to the address by 28 February 2012 (for the outcome of the poll to apply to the 2013 election).

Every elector who signs a demand must also set out their name and the address for which they are qualified as an elector of the Gisborne District Council.

This notice is given under section 28 of the Local Electoral Act 2001.
