The MapTV window consists of 3 parts, each separated by a border.

1) Mapping Area
This is where the map and map buttons appear and is the largest leftmost area.
2) Theme Area
This is where the map features can be turned on and off, and is the area on the top right.
3) Search Area
This area is where a user can type in the feature they want to search for, and where the results are returned.
The Mapping Area consists of the Map and the Mapping Toolbar. The Toolbar is a set of tool buttons that cause changes to the map.
Only one Tool (button) can be active at one time. You should be able to see what tool is active by the text on the right hand side of the tool bar. For example, if the Zoom tool is active, you should see the word ‘Zoom'. If the Identify button is active, you should see the word ‘Identify'
Most of the tools work by performing an action when you click on the map. Their functions are described below:
Zoom out to whole district
Refreshes the map display
Print the map currently on the screen
Measure lines or areas
Move map view north
Move map view south
Move map view east
Move map view west
Zoom out 2 times
Zoom in 2 times
Zoom Mode: Click and drag a box on the map to zoom to it ; or double click to ID (see Mapping Tips, Tricks and Traps if you have problems).
Pan Mode: Allows you to clik on the map to pan
Recentre Mode: Click on new centre for map
Identify Mode: Click on a feature to show information about it. The information is returned in the Search Area (bottom right).
Zoom Mode: Newer versions of Microsoft Internet Explorer allow the user to click on one spot and drag to another location to define the area to zoom to. A red box shows the new area that MapTV will zoom to.
However, older versions of Explorer and other types of browser work a different way. The user must click once on the lower left of the area to zoom to, and then click once on the upper right. Once these 2 clicks have been registered, MapTV will zoom to that area.
When using the Identify button on a parcel, Rating Unit (also called assessment or valuation number) information will also be displayed, including capital value, land value and annual rates. For urban areas, one Rating Unit usually consists of one surveyed parcel. However in rural areas, it is quite likely that one Rating Unit will be made up of multiple parcels. Using Identify on any of those parcels will show the same Rating Unit information.
The theme area is where the mapping information legend can be found. Individual 'layers' are able to be turned off and on by ticking or unticking the check box. A refresh of the screen is needed to show the change. This is done by clicking the following button in the map toolbar .
MapTV turns layers on and off depending on the scale of the map. For example, when looking a large scale map of the whole district, mapTV turns off addresses and parcels and just leaves road centrelines. As the user zooms in, MapTV will turn on appropriate layers at the apppropriate scale.
Topographic map information is turned off by default for perfomance reasons. The user must turn this layer to see the topographic information and refresh the screen. Remember that even though topographic information is turned on, it may not display if the scale is inappropriate.
Searching is easy using map-TV. Type the name or number of the place you want to search for into the find box in the search area (bottom right), and hit the enter key.
You can search on the following information: Addresses, Road Names, Legal Descriptions, Assessment Numbers, Rivers, Survey Plan Numbers, Topo feature Names, and Reserve Purpose.
Searching is not case sensitive.
If you do not check the exact checkbox map-TV will find any places that start with the letters you entered.
If a single match is found map-TV will map it automatically and zoom to that feature.
If multiple matches are found for the text you entered (non exact searches) map-TV will prompt you to choose one, when you click on the one you want map-TV will zoom to that feature.
Note there is a limit on the number of matches that are returned, therefore you may need to refine your search.
If multiple places have the same name, map-TV will usually map all of them, unless it has been configured to map only the first.
You can use a wildcard search eg:*dp 4567 will return all properties with DP 4567 in their legal description, and *brown will return all occurences of the word Brown.
