Gisborne District Council has prepared a Marine Oil Spill contingency plan (Tier 2 plan) 2011. Council has a statutory responsibility under the Maritime Transport Act 1994 to conduct a Tier 2 response to marine oil spills that occur within the Gisborne coastal marine area.
