Message from mayor Rehette Stoltz
As a Council and as a community, we have had a full and a productive year.
We caught up with Tairawhiti residents across the region at several Spatial Plan hui to get your input into how you see our place looking in 2050. It is so important to plan well for our future – we not only have a responsibility to take care of our place and people now, but we need to make sure we take future needs, challenges and opportunities into account as well.
We took part in the successful Tuia 250 Sestercentennial commemorations in October that saw thousands of locals and visitors engage about our individual voyaging histories and our shared journey since 1769.
We also had a local body election and welcomed a new mayor and five new councillors onto our Council. As a refreshed team, we look forward to talking to you, our community, to make sure that we reflect your aspirations and vision when we gear up next year to start working on our new Ten Year Plan.
I want to thank our CEO, Nedine Thatcher Swann and her staff for the diligent and future-focused way they work hard every day to serve our community in the best possible way.
I also want to take this opportunity to wish everyone in Tairawhiti a Merry Christmas. Hopefully you will be able to have a special, restful time with whanau and friends. This past year has been a tough year for us in Aotearoa New Zealand.
I look forward to sharing a journey of 'back to basics', sustainable growth and looking after each other well with you in 2020.
