New playground for Ruatoria community
Our awesome new playground at Ruatoria was opened to the public with a karakia (blessing) last week.
Featuring slides, climbing equipment and a seesaw, the new playground at Puawaitanga Park is versatile and fun for kids of all ages.
Community assets and resources manager Laird Kennedy said it was great to complete the upgrade for the benefit of tamariki and the wider Ruatoria community.
Council allocates $75k annually for playground replacements and upgrades. This year the budget was spent in Ruatoria, where we worked with the community to develop the chosen design.
Next year’s budget is allocated to the playground in Te Araroa, continuing Council’s commitment to providing a high standard of community facilities in our townships.
We audit our playgrounds annually to determine budget allocations for maintenance and replacements, taking into account the lifespan of playground equipment and priortising those with the highest safety risks.
Over the last few years we’ve achieved complete replacements of aging playgrounds at Waikirikiri Park, Adventure Playground, Tikitiki, Heath Johnston Park, Tokomaru Bay and Titirangi.
