New Years Eve Block Party in Kaiti
YOLO, Gisborne’s youth New Years Eve celebration will see out 2014 with a community vibe this year as the ‘youth dance concert’ becomes more ‘neighbourhood block party,’ to be held at the Kaiti Mall car park on 31 December.
The outdoor event runs from 7pm to midnight with plans for an outdoor stage, food stalls, bouncy castle, inflatable gladiator pit, outdoor movie screen, and a VIP zone for 15-17year olds.
“Block parties originate in The Bronx, New York, where communities come together to celebrate with music, food, dancing and good times,” says organiser Rob Coe-Tipene.
“I think this concept is the perfect way for the Gizzy community to bring in 2015.”
YOLO was founded to fill the gap for youth under the age of 17 since 2012, this year organisers want to expand the popular youth event to include families and wider the community.
“Last year we noticed more parents with younger children attending and since the clock town party ended in 2011 Gisborne hasn’t had a family friendly event that celebrates New Year’s Eve in a safe and controlled environment,” says Coe-Tipene, “we believe YOLO is the perfect brand for a community event.”
Headlining on the night will be South Auckland hip hop artist Sid Diamond, alongside local artists and DJs from Wellington and Hawkes Bay.
The event is smoke, alcohol, drug, and gang regalia free, the venue will be patrolled and monitored by security staff throughout.
