Parking restricted around The Great Race

There will parking restrictions this weekend as Gisborne prepares for 'The Great Race". The course takes in the Marina and the 3 bridges - Peel St, Gladstone Road and William Petty. The course needs to be kept clear of all vehicles to ensure the safety of competitors. The race starts at 1pm on Saturday but the area will be coned-off to the public from early on Saturday morning with marshals ensuring that no one moves the cones to take up a park. Read more >>
Community planting day at Wainui 'schools' beach access

Room 3 at Wainui Beach School will be out in force on Sunday 30 August helping to beautify their community. Working with council they will help plant a range of natives and beach hardy plants. They will be planted next to the beach access on Wairere Road commonly referred to as 'schools'.  Members of the Wainui Beach community are invited to come and help them. Read more >>
Keeping safe workshop for senior citizens

Gisborne's senior citizens learnt how to keep safe around the home at a workshop held at the Lawson Field Theatre on Thursday 20 August. Keeping safe emotionally was also covered in a presentation by Gisborne District Councillor Nona Gaskin. She discussed tools seniors can use to avoid family abuse or general bullying. Read more >>
Mata Road closed to heavy vehicles
