Palms removed early Tuesday
Contractors will remove 3 palm trees on Wainui Road near the Gladstone Road Bridge in the early hours of the morning on Tuesday 23 October.
Traffic will be stopped for 5-10min periods from 5am and the road is expected to be fully open by 6am.
These palms are being removed to allow for safer installation of the new sewer pipe.
Work to install the new sewer main in The Esplanade started at the beginning of the month.
The new pipe will redirect the flow to the Wainui Pump Station and away from the Hirini Street manhole, to help reduce overflows during rain events.
Removing the trees will make it safer for contractors, who have completed more than half and are starting to work in the berm at Wainui Road next week.
New native trees are planned to be re-planted in the reserve as part of stage 2 of the inner harbour redevelopment.
