Peak water demand up
The mercury is rising and the water levels are dropping. The city is already at level 1 water alert and with the industrial processing season now underway, Council’s team leader – water, Marcus Koll is encouraging everyone to think twice before using any water outdoors.
“Peak water demand is up with the hot weather over the last few days and combined with the forecast for more hot weather to come, outdoor water use should be kept to a minimum, otherwise a total sprinkler ban is unavoidable,” says Marcus.
The Waipaoa Water Treatment Plant remains in a state of readiness. Mangapoike Dam levels have dropped by 1%, and are currently 85% full. The NIWA seasonal outlook suggests normal soil moisture levels and rainfall throughout January and February.
