Rating information database

The Rating Information Database is available for inspection at our customer service centres in Fitzherbert Street and Te Puia Springs.

Ratepayers have the right to object to any of the information included in the Rating Information Database.

We have an online tool to check rates information, but it won't give you name and address information.  Check our rates calculator

Names and addresses on the Rating Information Database

Names and addresses of property owners are publicly available on the Rating Information Database (RID), unless you request them to be confidential.  

If you wish to have your own name and postal address confidential on the RID database, you can fill in the form below or put your request in writing addressed to the rates section.

Inspection of rates records

Section 38 of the Local Government (Rating) Act 2002, has restrictions on who can view all the details contained in council's rate records.  This prevents unauthorised persons viewing or receiving information about the state of a rate account.

The following persons may inspect the rates record for a rating unit:

• The ratepayer.
• A person who is authorised by the ratepayer to do so. 
• A person who has become liable to pay the rates in respect of the unit under section 61 or section 62 of the Local Government (Rating) Act 2002.
• A solicitor, a person (not being a lawyer) who provides conveyancing services, a real estate agent, or any other person, who—
  • is a party to (or acting as an agent for a party to) a transaction relating to the rating unit; and
  • reasonably requires the information in the rates record for the purposes of the transaction.
• any member of the public with respect to rates assessed, but not including arrears, remissions, or postponed rates.
