Riverside walkway closed temporarily

Council needs to close part of the riverside walkway - under the Gladstone Road Bridge and under the Peel Street Bridge - to keep the public safe while sewer pipe and pathway repairs are made.

The walkway is closed under the Gladstone Road Bridge (at the town end) to carry out small repairs to the sewer pipe. In the last few months there has been an occasional leak through the side of the bridge from the pipe. With the agreement of the contractors, walkers will be able pass around the edge of where the work is being done.

The walkway will be open by the weekend.

The walkway under the Peel Street Bridge will close intermittently this week while changes are made to the slope of the path. A review of the walkway showed that one section of the bank is overly steep, while users of mobility scooters report that the side slope of the main walkway is uncomfortable. The walkway will be open outside work hours.

Council thanks walkway users for their patience.
