Description: Development and implementation of road safety programmes within the Tairawhiti region.

Applications are invited for the development and implementation of road safety programmes within the Tairawhiti region from 1 July 2012 to 30 June 2015.

The NZ Transport Agency has reviewed road accidents and crashes and identified the following safety issues:

High concern

• alcohol/drug impaired driving

• rural road safety

• intersection crashes (rural and urban)

Medium concern

• motorcyclists

• safe walking and cycling

• improving the safety of young drivers

• addressing driver distraction and inattention

• reducing the impact of high risk drivers

• speed

Low concern

• unrestrained drivers and passengers

• heavy vehicles

• reducing the impact of fatigue

Please complete the Community Road Safety Application Form.

This must be received by Gisborne District Council, 15 Fitzherbert Street, Gisborne by 1pm Wednesday 22 February 2012.
