Summer events on around our district

There are plenty of events happening in and around Gizzy over summer. Pack up a picnic for a fun family outing. Here's some of those events" 

December 22 Friday - Junior Bike Park

Grand Opening @ the Adventure Playground from 5-7pm. 
Being run by the Wainui Lions and Gisborne District Council. 
Bring your bikes, helmets and a picnic tea. Spot prizes. FREE 
Sorry no scooters as the asphalt still needs a bit more time to set. It will be hard enough for scooters to ride on after Boxing Day. Thanks for your patience.

December 31 Sunday - YOLO 

New Year’s Eve Event @ the Gisborne Soundshell. 
Good Karma in association with Gisborne District Council. 
Free live youth music concert with food stalls, inflatables and other activities.
Whanau friendly and fun. FREE 

December Friday 29- Sunday 31 - Rhythm & Vines

International Music Festival for those 18 and over @ Waiohika Estate. Note temporary alcohol ban around the Poverty Bay flats. www.rhythmandvines.co.nz(external link)

January 1 Monday - Fire in the Sky

The annual Walter Findlay fireworks display at the convergence of the Taruheru and Waimata rivers at the Marina. Walter Findlay Ltd has funded and organised the fireworks display each year since 2001. Entertainment event before the fireworks display is organised by Good Karma in association with Gisborne District Council.
Eat Street on the Esplanade starts early evening.
Pack a picnic and bring the whole family. FREE

January 2 Tuesday - Tolaga Bay Charity Beach Races

Kaiaua Beach.  An annual fundraising event for the Tolaga Bay Community. It’s an awesome family event, so bring a picnic and stake your site in readiness for the first race at 10am and goes through until 1pm. $5 per adult and kids are free. Fun betting on site through an equaliser system. Gates open from 9am.  

January 12-13 - East Coast Vibes

At the Gisborne Soundshell. Organised by Aotearoa Entertainment and headlined by international reggae acts and  some of New Zealand's biggest reggae bands.
Ticket sales for those 18 and over. Gates open at 10am, with the music underway at 12pm through to 11pm both days. More info East Coast Vibes on Facebook.

January 14 Sunday - Wainui Lions Club Beach Dig

At the sand sprint track next to the Olympic Pool and Churchill Park, Midway Beach.
This annual community event sees families dig for discs, and pay a small fee to claim the prize. 3pm start. Don’t forget your sunscreen and water.

January 12, 19 and 26, and February 2 - Live on the Lawn Summer Series

At the Marina Reserve by Lawson Field Theatre.
Bring a picnic and enjoy fabulous live music from 6pm. Family friendly. FREE.
