Tokomaru Bay beach clean-up
Shout out to the tamariki from Hatea-a-rangi School and Te Kura Kaupapa Maori o Nga Taonga Tuturu in Tokomaru Bay for their efforts in a major beach clean-up last week.
They were disappointed at the amount of rubbish they found on the beaches, from disposable nappies, plastic bottles, glass bottles and loads of single use plastic bags.
The students have issued a call to action for residents to be more vigilant and proactive when seeing rubbish dumped on the beachfront. They would also like visiting campers to be respectful and make sure they leave no rubbish behind.
Council’s area liaison officer Lillian Ward went along to hear their concerns and assist. Waste minimisation is a focus for Council and we appreciate any community effort to protect our environment.
