Tokomaru Bay

Summer camping is now open until Monday 2 April 2018. Permit and fee required

Freedom camping is only allowed outside of the daylight saving period - between Easter weekend to the start of daylight savings. See the freedom camping information

Tokomaru Bay is 92km from Gisborne and 242km from Opotiki.  There are 2 areas available for summer camping:

  • north end of the bay on Beach Road
  • south end of the bay, turn off on Arthur Street to Waiotu Road

Good fishing and surfing beach, but care is required when swimming.

Rubbish collection for summer camping

Your summer camp permit provides you with rubbish bags. We encourage you to recycle and take it to the nearest recycling centre.

Rubbish is collected in the morning from the signposted areas Mondays and Fridays. Also Wednesdays during the peak Christmas/New Year period. 

Freedom camping

You can freedom camp at the 2 restricted sites outside the summer camping season.

At the south end, Waiotu Rd, camping is only allowed in a self-contained vehicle.
At the north end, opposite Potae Street, camping is allowed. 

Maximum stay is 3 nights over any 30 day period.

Please take your waste to the provided disposal points.
