Turihaua Beach

Freedom camping at Turihaua Beach is for a limited period only - from 26 December to 1 February.  No overnight camping is permitted from 2 February to 25 December.

Turihaua Beach is located approximately 16km from Gisborne.  The camping area is either side of the Turihaua bridge.  Good swimming and fishing.

A speed restriction will be in place on State Highway 35 at the freedom camping areas during the Christmas holiday period.  This is to protect campers at the sites.

For safety reasons no tents or caravans are allowed to be set up within 10 metres of the edge of the highway seal.  Cars, vans, buses or motorhomes cannot park within 5 metres of the edge of the highway seal.  The 5 and 10 metre areas have been marked out.
