Walkways and trails

Council maintained walkways, mountain-biking and fitness trails.  Also other popular walking tracks and trails.

Whataupoko Park - Langford Fallon reserve

Whataupoko Park aerial map The park was developed in 2001 after council purchased the land in 1992.  The reserve was then planted in exotic trees which are now well established.  The mountain bike trails were developed in 2003 by a group of volunteers. There are 7 kilometres of trails. 

Cyclists ride at their own risk, please wear suitable protection.  Please stay on the tracks and be aware of other users as 90% of people walk or run the trails. Entrances on Fox Street and Hauroa Road.

Titirangi Domain - Kaiti Hill

Titirangi Domain (Kaiti Hill) provides great views of Gisborne city and the bay towards Mahia.  There are bush walk tracks amongst native trees.  There is also a very popular fitness trail with lots of steps to run up and down.

Other walkways and cycleways

City riverbank walkway along the Taruheru and Turanganui riverbank.  Connects with the new walkway and cycleway to Waikanae creek.

Turanga gardens walking tracks on Hospital hill, Valley Road.

Waiherere Domain, Back Ormond Road.  Native bush walk leading to Waihirere waterfall.

Makorori headland walk.

Eastwoodhill Arboretum - walking tracks.

Motu Trails cycleway

And the many Department of Conservation walking tracks, such as Gray's Bush scenic reserve, Te Kuri Farm walkway, Otoko walkway, Okitu scenic reserve, Cooks Cove walkway in Tolaga Bay, Anaura Bay walkway, Mount Hikurangi - Te Ara ki Hikurangi.  More information on these walks visit Department of Conservation website
