War Memorial Theatre fees and charges

The War Memorial Theatre seats 440 in total with 180 in the circle and 260 in the stalls. This is a fully equipped small theatre with dressing rooms, properly equipped with lights and mirrors, toilet and kitchen facilities.  For more information on what's available at the theatre.

All fees and charges are GST inclusive.

Professional touring groups and artists - shows only

The front-of-house manager, booking office cashier/programme seller, front-of-house staff and the safety officer will be staffed by the theatre unless prior arrangements have been made with the theatre manager.  Please note that although the theatre is the employer, the hirer is liable for all wages and incidentals costs associated with the appropriate staffing of the theatre.

Per performance - minimum charge.
Includes front-of-house manager (safety checks, clear exists etc), booking office cashier/programme seller (max of 2hrs), set-up technician (not exceeding 6hrs), 24 luminaries, lighting control board, glassware (charge for breakages etc)

Local amateur arts and theatrical groups - shows only

This category includes local organisations, professional artists sponsored by local organisations, local amateur incorporated society or IRD registered charity and schools and others. ("others" defined as a group of users who do not meet the criteria for the 'charity rate')

Per performance day - minimum charge. Includes cleaning and lighting control board $332

Charity rate 

To qualify for the charity rate, organisations must first apply in writing to the theatre manager for the discounted rate.  Your application for the charity rate must be received 30 days before the date required.  Email the theatre manager.

Minimum charge per performance day.  Price given on application.
Charge includes cleaning, booking office cashier/programme seller (if required, max 2 hours), 24 luminaries, lighting control board 
 
Additional charges - for the manager (safety checks, clear exists etc), booking office fees, power and heating charges (these are metered),
additional sound and lighting equipment, extra cleaning as determined by the theatre manager when the theatre is not to the agree standard for the next user and requires more than 1 hour cleaning.

Tickets

Gisborne Theatres (Gisborne District Council) are a TicketDirect agency and provide tickets for all performances and events.  Your event or performance at the War Memorial Theatre must use the Gisborne District Council TicketDirect booking system, unless otherwise negotiated.

Security

It should be noted that the stage access door, back theatre doors and back stage security are the sole responsibility of the hirer from pack-in to pack-out of the venue.  The hirer can request the theatre manager to provide security staff at a cost to the hirer.

Deposit required on all bookings

A security deposit is required for all bookings and is to be paid within 60 days prior to the first date booked for hire. Bookings become confirmed on receipt of the payment. The deposit may be refunded if the booking is cancelled more than 35 days before the first performance date.
