Every drop counts

Water, in all forms, is vital to most things we do in life.
When it comes to promoting sustainable, long term management of our natural resource, we can all our play our part.
Demand for water has intensified at a very quick rate in New Zealand over the past two decades and our seasonal weather patterns seem to be changing. Now is the time to start thinking about your water needs and how you will manage if water is running low….
Have you considered ways to achieve a more reliable water supply, such as water storage? Do you have your contingency plans in place? If you are a water take consent holder, do you know where to monitor the flows of the rivers and what your cut-off levels are? Have you got your crop survival plan in place? Make sure you and everybody involved knows what to do! If you have any questions please feel free to contact Gisborne District Council’s Compliance and Monitoring team who will endeavour to assist you the best they can (see contact details below).
Some water storage options include ponds/dams, tanks and bladders. There are many different options out there that can suit your needs so do your research – contact our local service providers for further advice and assistance.
You can view our live water flow data at Lawa.
Or visit our water take resource consent river low-flows tool for the current compliance flows in relation to whether water take restrictions apply or not.

Every little drop counts – do your part!
