Think of animals this Guy Fawkes
With Guy Fawkes on Tuesday and the sale of fireworks from this Saturday, it’s a stressful time for some animals.
Please consider animals if you’re letting off fireworks.
Keep your pets safe and inside if they’re scared of fireworks, or give them a secure place to hide.
It can be a busy period for our animal control team with the number of dogs reported missing.
Make sure your dog is microchipped in case they do run off and get lost.
They can be quickly identified and reunited with their owner if our animal control team pick them up.
Stay safe and be mindful of your neighbour’s animals when letting off fireworks.
Fire and Emergency New Zealand (FENZ) urge people to take care when it comes to bonfires at the beach.
They don't want people lighting fires on the city beach from The Cut to Pacific Street.
You can light a bonfire on the beach along Centennial Marine Drive past the green light to the river mouth. And every other beach in the region is fine, but please take care and extinguish the fire and take all your rubbish when you leave the beach.
