Environmental Monitoring

You can monitor rainfall, river water levels and wind and air temperature recorded from council's telemetry system. Map of Gisborne district

The data is provisional only and there are limitations to the service.  

The data is automatically sent back to council from our monitoring stations. The data is updated every hour approximately at quarter past.  The time of the data is shown in NZST (NZ Standard Times), during daylight savings the data is one hour behind. 

  • River and rain data - current levels for all sites
  • River levels - graphs for last 7 days and 7 months
  • Rainfall - graphs for last 7 days and 7 months
  • Wind - graphs showing air temperature, humidity, strength and direction

Other environmental data

  • Predicted river stage information - Waipaoa, Waimata, Hikuwai, Waiapu and Te Arai Rivers. 
    Please note: The predicted river stage information is computer generated and may differ from official notifications issued by Civil Defence.  Official notifications take precedence over model forecasts if there are any conflicts.
    Metservice provide rainfall forecasts for 3 sites, Gisborne, Tutamoe and Ruatoria. With this data Council models generate predicted river stages for up to 3 days ahead.
