About Waihau Beach

Waihau Beach, also known as Loisels, is approximately 42 km from Gisborne city.

The camping area is 6 km from the state highway turn-off, at the northern end of the bay on Waihau Road. Please note the road is narrow in places.

Waihau Beach is popular for surfing, fishing, diving and swimming.

Swimming in the lagoon, when it forms, is not recommended. Water quality is often poor and bacteria can be present that may cause illness. It's best to choose safer places to swim.
