Paying rates and due dates

When rates are due

Rates are charged in 4 equal instalments throughout the year. Your rates invoice will be sent approximately 2 weeks before each due date.

A 10% penalty is applied to any unpaid rates after the due date.

How to pay

We've made it easy to pay your rates. Choose from a range of payment options, or set up an EasyPay direct debit to spread payments across the year.

Direct debit - EasyPay

Set up payments weekly, fortnightly (Tuesday/Thursday or Friday), monthly on the 20th, or on the rates due date.

  • No penalties apply when payments are made on time.
  • If your rates increase or decrease, we'll automatically adjust your payments so you're always paying the correct amount.
  • If a payment date falls on a public holiday, the deduction will be processed on the next business day.

Q. What happens if I miss a payment?

We'll contact you about the missed payment.  Your payment plan may be adjusted to ensure your rates are paid in full by 30 June each year.

Q. What if I don't have enough money in my account to cover the payment?

Let us know as soon as possible and at least 2 working days before the payment is due to be deducted from your account.

For example if your payment is due to be deducted on a Friday, you'll need to contact us know by midday on Wednesday. We'll work with you to make alternative arrangements.

Q. What if I receive a rate rebate?

Apply for your rate rebate as usual each year.

If you receive a rate rebate, we'll adjust your payment plan to reflect the rebate and send you a letter with your updated payment amounts.

Q. How do I stop the direct debit?

Contact us to cancel your direct debit.

We need at least 2 working days' before the payment is due to be deducted from your account.

Q. What if I have overdue rates?

Contact our Revenue team. We'll work with you to agree on a payment plan that's manageable for you.

Your payment amount will be reviewed each year and we'll write to you with any changes.

Q. Will I be charged a penalty if I don't pay on time?

If you contact us and enter into an agreed payment arrangement, we'll reverse the penalty after 3 months, provided all payments are made as agreed and no payments are missed.

Bank transfer - you can pay by bank transfer, including from overseas.

Rate refund fee

If you've overpaid your rates, we can only issue a refund once your annual rates are paid in full or the property has been sold.

A $28 refund processing fee may apply. This fee doesn't apply to refunds resulting from the sale of a property.
