Rating information database

Ratepayers have the right to inspect our Rating Information Database (RID) and our rates records.

The RID includes rating information for properties in the Gisborne Tairāwhiti district, such as the property owner's name and postal address. This information is available to the public - unless the owner requests that their details be kept confidential.

You can view the RID at our customer service counters at 15 Fitzherbert Street, Gisborne and Te Puia Springs office.

Under the Local Government (Rating) Act 2022, ratepayers can object to any information in the RID and rates records. If you want your name and/or postal address withheld, you let us know in writing or use the form below.

View the Rating Information Database RID on our Rates and Valuation Search page

The public can view the rates record for any rating unit, but only for information about rates assessed.

Details such as rates arrears, remissions or postponed rates are not public. These are only available to:

  • The owner or ratepayer
  • a person authorised by the ratepayer
  • someone who becomes liable for the rates after a default
  • a licensed conveyancer, real estate agent or other party involved in a sale or legal transaction related to the rating unit.

This protects personal account information, in line with Section 38 of the Local Government (Rating) Act 2002.

Request to keep your details confidential

A property owner's name and postal address are included in the public Rating Information Database. If you would like your name and/or postal address kept confidential, you can request suppression.

To do this, send us a written request confirming the details you want made confidential. You can use this form to request suppression on the Rating Information Database.

This will apply to all properties where your name appears on the record.
