Camping at Turihaua Beach is open until 30 April.
Before you head out, apply for your camping permit online. A valid permit is required before you set up camp.
Tents and vehicles are permitted. A chemical toilet is required.
About Turihaua Beach
Turihaua Beach is located approximately 16 km from Gisborne city and is a popular spot for fishing and swimming.
Swimming in the lagoon is not recommended. Water quality is often poor and bacteria can be present that may cause illness.
The lagoon is frequently blocked by a sandbar and only flushes during heavy rainfall, allowing run-off from upstream farms to build up over time.
For your safety, tents, caravans and vehicles must stay at least 10 metres back from the road edge. A marked line indicates the 10 metre setback area.
Rubbish, recycling and waste
You're responsible for managing your own waste. There is no rubbish collection service at the site.
Take all your rubbish and recycling with you when you leave. The nearest transfer stations are in Gisborne and Tolaga Bay.
