About Turihaua Beach

Turihaua Beach is located approximately 16km from Gisborne city. Good fishing and swimming.

Swimming in the lagoon is not recommended. Water quality is often poor and bacteria present can cause illness.
The lagoon is frequently blocked by a sandbar and only flushes during heavy rain, allowing run-off from farms upstream to build up over time in the lagoon.

For your safety tents, caravans and vehicles must stay at least 10 metres back from the road edge. A line marking will indicate the 10m boundary.

Rubbish, recycling and waste

You're responsible for managing your own waste. There's no rubbish collection service provided at the site.

Take all your rubbish and recycling with you when you leave. The closest transfer stations to sort your rubbish and recycling is Gisborne and Tolaga Bay - see opening hours

Grey water only may be emptied at designated dump station potties.
