This fee is paid in addition to the interment fee.
The fee may be waived if the deceased:
  • lived within the Tairāwhiti/Gisborne district for at least 12 months before passing
  • lived in the district for a continuous period of at least 10 years in their lifetime
  • was a ratepayer in the district.

*Before Council can be involved in a disinterment, an application must first be made to the Ministry of Health and a Licence to Disinter must be issued. Once the licence is issued, you may submit a request for disinterment or reinterment on the application form. For more details, see our Bylaw and the Burial and Cremation Act.
