Traffic management at events

Planning a community event, street party or festival? If your evet affects traffic - whether it's vehicles or pedestrians - you will need a Traffic Management Plan (TMP).

When is a TMP required?

A Traffic Management Plan is legally required for any event that:

  • Takes place on a street or road
  • Stops, delays or increases vehicle or pedestrian traffic

All TMPs must be prepared by a registered traffic management company.

Talk to us early in your planning, we can guide you through what’s needed and help avoid delays.

Pre-approved TMP locations

To make things easier, we’ve pre-approved TMPs at selected Council sites. Hosting your event at one of these locations can simplify the process and reduce costs. It’s a great option for fun, low-impact events like markets or performances.

Road closures

If your event involves closing a road:

  • you must publicly notify the closure
  • Submit your application at least 10 weeks before the event to allow time for the public notification.
  • A TMP is also required for every road closure.
