We offer a range of council-owned venues and outdoor spaces suitable for community events, performances, celebrations and gatherings of all sizes.
Council-owned facilities
Our theatres are versatile venues for seminars, weddings and a wide range of community activity. They are also our district's primary venues for performing and visual arts events.
- War Memorial Theatre - tiered seating for up to 500 people
- Lawson Field Theatre - auditorium seating for up to 250 | Rose Room - seating for 80
- Gisborne Soundshell - outdoor venue with a capacity of up to 15,000

Please note: There are a number of rural community halls available throughout the district. These venues are not owned or maintained by Council.
Reserves, parks and sports grounds
We have many Council reserves, parks and sports grounds available for events, subject to approval and conditions.
If you're planning:
- a wedding on the beach
- a ceremony or gathering in a Council reserve
- an event at the Botanical Gardens or the James Parker Memorial Rose Garden
You need to let us know in advance so we can confirm requirements and issue any necessary approvals.
