You must have an overweight permit before operating an overweight vehicle on Council roads. Permits are available only for vehicles that meet legal and NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) requirements.
To apply for a permit, your vehicle must comply with Section 5.1(1) of the Vehicle Dimensions and Mass Rule 2002 and the NZTA Overweight Permit Manual.
Please note:
- Some bridges have maximum weight and speed limits for heavy vehicles
- Infringement fees can be up to $850 per axle and $1,000 per axle group if these limits are exceeded.
