Speed hump request

We understand that speeding and traffic volumes can be frustrating for residents. However, not every street is suitable for traffic calming measures like speed humps or chicanes. These interventions are only considered where there's a clear safety risk, strong community support and alignment with our policy.

Before submitting a request, please read the criteria carefully to see if your street is eligible.

Common concernsSpeed hump

Residents typically raise concerns about:

  • drivers exceeding the speed limit
  • vehicles using residential streets as shortcuts

Eligibility criteria

To be considered for traffic calming, your street will be assessed against the following criteria.

Your street should:
  • Be a local residential street
  • Have a recorded accident history
  • experience the issue along the full length of the street - not just one location
  • have support from at least 75% of affected residents
Your street should not:
  • require treatment over more than 1km
  • have a speed limit over 50km/h
  • be unsealed
  • be a major traffic route, such as Ormond Road
  • be on a bus route
  • be in an industrial subdivision
  • be excessively steep, where calming measures would hinder service vehicles such as rubbish trucks, fire engines

Even if your street doesn't meet all the criteria, you'll still need 75% residents support to proceed.
