At their meeting this week, councillors agreed that an additional campervan and caravan effluent dump station should be considered through the next Long Term Plan process.
Mayor Stoltz said councillors recognised the importance of the issue to the New Zealand Motor Caravan Association (NZMCA) and its members, as well as the work undertaken over many years to develop a consented proposal.
"We acknowledge the long-standing advocacy of NZMCA and appreciate the effort that has gone into progressing this proposal," said Mayor Stoltz.
The decision does not commit Council to constructing a new dump station or funding the project at this stage. Instead, councillors have requested further work be undertaken on costs, funding options and delivery arrangements as part of future Long Term Plan discussions.
Any proposal for investment will be assessed alongside other community priorities through the Long Term Plan process, which provides an opportunity to consider affordability, funding requirements and the potential benefits of the facility.
"This decision recognises there is value in further exploring the proposal while ensuring any future investment is considered alongside the many other demands on Council and ratepayer funding," said Mayor Stoltz.
The Long Term Plan process will provide opportunities for further assessment and community input before any final decisions are made.
