Written permission is required before installing a cattle stop or swing gate across a public road.
Applying for permission
Complete the application form and return it to us for assessment.
If your application is approved, the cattle stop must meet Council's design requirements and be installed by a Council-approved contractor or supplier.
Maintenance responsibilities
The permit holder is responsible for:
- application costs
- purchasing and installing the cattle stop
- replacing the cattle stop when required
- maintaining any gates and fences connected to the cattle stop.
Council is responsible for maintaining the cattle stop cavity and rails or bars. We also decide when a cattle stop needs to be replaced. If a cattle stop has been neglected, we may not contribute to the cost of bringing it up to the required standard.
