Event - It's a Gizzy Christmas

Temporary road closure for the community Christmas parade and event, It's a Gizzy Christmas hosted by Gisborne District Council on Sunday 7 December 2025 (14 December is the postponement date).

The following roads will be closed on 7 December for the It's a Gizzy Christmas Parade sponsored by ProTraffic at 4pm and the It's a Gizzy Christmas party in the park following the parade at 5pm. All roads will reopen as the parade passes.  If the event is postponed due to bad weather, it will be run on 14 December 2025.

  • Parade set up & dispurse from 2pm - 6pm (more likely 5pm)
    • Lowe Street from Reads Quay to Gladstone Road
    • Reads Quay from Peel Street to Lowe Street
  • Parade route from 3pm to 430pm 
    • Peel Street from the roundabout to Gladstone Road (reopens once the parade has passed on both ends)
    • Bright Street between Palmerston Road and Gladstone Road (reopens once the parade has passed on both ends)
    • Grey Street between Palmerston Road and Gladstone Road (reopens as soon as the parade turns into Gladstone Road)
    • Gladstone Road from Grey Street to Lowe Street (reopening as parade passes)
  • Stout Street, from Fitzherbert Street to the large tree in the grass verge just before the Army Hall Carpark entry, from 3pm to 10pm.  The event will be run from 5pm to approximately 9.30pm. This is to allow safe crossing of Stout Street for pedestrians in and around the Army Hall area.

No one other than those covered by the permit for the above event would be able to use the roads while closed.

This notice is issued under the Local Government Act 1974 Section 342 and the Transport (Vehicular Traffic Road Closure) Regulations 1965.
