Lifeguards from Kiwa Pools have returned from the New Zealand OPSEC National Pool Lifeguard Competition after a strong showing on the national stage.
The team competed against lifeguards from across Aotearoa in rescue scenarios, first aid exercises and team challenges.
Representing Kiwa Pools were Hernan Vazquez, Nigel Matata, Ngahuia Riddell, Rachael Matata, Josh Meade, Lathaneal Niwa-Karakia and Sara Stannard.
"Our team represented Tairāwhiti with pride and showed exactly what it means to be a lifeguard," says Aquatics Manager Cam Macgregor.
"They showed strong skills, great teamwork and a real commitment to keeping people safe. We're incredibly proud of what they achieved."
The team's professionalism shone through when they stepped in to provide first aid to an injured competitor during the event.
"When someone needed help, our team didn't hesitate to act," says Macgregor.
"That reflects the values we see every day at Kiwa Pools. Looking after people is at the heart of what our lifeguards do."
There was also individual success for Ngahuia Riddell, who was awarded a Level 4 Lifeguard Scholarship. The scholarship will cover her study fees as she works towards her New Zealand Certificate in Aquatics Level 4.
"Receiving this scholarship is a fantastic achievement for Ngahuia," says Macgregor.
"It recognises the dedication she's shown to her profession across a number of years and supports her growth in the aquatic industry.
"We'd like to congratulate the whole team for their efforts. They've done themselves, Kiwa Pools and our community proud."
