Motorists are being cautioned not to stop to sightsee along Waihau Beach Road with news that a June 2023 landslide has failed again and is causing concern.
Council principal scientist Dr Murry Cave says an area of 10-metres wide and up to 50-metres long has collapsed from the head of the landslide, with signs of further instability in the head scarp region.
“Further movement is likely, particularly after moderate to heavy rain, with an additional risk of rockfall onto the road,” said Dr Cave.
Signage is set to be installed and motorists are advised not to stop on this section of road.
The landslide is one of a number that have occurred since the beginning of winter and continue to be actively monitored.
