The new Tairāwhiti Mobile Traders Bylaw 2025 Ture-ā-Rohe Kaihoko Nekeneke o Te Tairāwhiti, which was adopted by Council in October came into effect on Monday 10 November 2025.
The bylaw regulates mobile trading in public places. It replaces the 2014 Mobile Shops and Other Traders bylaw, with changes that make it simpler for people to read and clarifies the enforcement tools Council uses for monitoring compliance.
Environmental Health Team Leader Vincenzo Petrella says anyone who wants to trade in a public place needs to apply for license approval.
“Licenses are granted with conditions to maintain public health and safety, and mitigate potential risks like traffic management or congestion.”
