Gladstone Road Bridge closure required for debris removal

Following the overnight storm, the Gladstone Road Bridge will close from this morning to allow Council contractors to clear debris that has built up around the bridge.

The bridge may not reopen until this evening, depending on the progress of the work and impact of the incoming tide this afternoon.

Detours will be in place, and motorists are asked to follow signage and allow extra time for their journey.

Council's General Manager Journeys, Libby Young, says the debris removal is necessary to protect the bridge and maintain the safe flow of water through the river.

"We can see more woody debris moving down the river, so we're activating crews now to remove the current build-up before more material arrives.

"Closing the bridge allows us to carry out this work safely and complete the inspections needed before it can reopen. We know this will be disruptive, and we appreciate everyone's patience while we get the job done as quickly and safely as possible."

Council is also closely monitoring other bridges for debris. At this stage, they remain safe and do not require debris removal.
