Monuments clean ahead of annual remembrance

Friday 5 April, 2024

War memorials around the region are clean and ready ahead of ANZAC Day 2024.

Liveable Communities Director Michele Frey says cleaning and caring for the many monuments, statues and cenotaphs in our region is all a part of the work Council does to keep Tairāwhiti beautiful.

“Security fencing will remain around the Cenotaph in town to ensure it’s kept in good condition ahead of the ceremonies planned for ANZAC Day on 25 April.

“Our contractors will do some final cleaning such as sweeping and grass mowing around the monuments in the week before ANZAC Day.

“The recent works help to inform future work to repair and maintain these monuments as well as others within the region.”
