Te Karaka Stopbank Upgrade

Proposal

The applicant seeks resource consent for the Te Karaka Stopbank Upgrade Project to improve flood protection and resilience for the Te Karaka township and reduce flood risk to approximately 200 properties and key community infrastructure.

The proposal includes the construction and upgrading of approximately 4.2 kilometres of stopbanks, associated earthworks, road raising, drainage and stormwater infrastructure, works within and adjacent to the Waipaoa River, temporary water take and discharge activities during construction, vegetation clearance, temporary access works, service relocations, and landscape planting and site reinstatement.

The proposal may result in changes to flood behaviour in some areas outside the proposed flood protection scheme. The application is supported by specialist assessments including engineering, hydraulic, ecological, geotechnical, landscape, archaeological, noise and vibration reports.

The application has been publicly notified under section 95A of the Resource Management Act 1991.
